Interested in markets for agricultural products and environmental services? Your opinion matters and is much appreciated!

Then start blogging here!

And if you do you also help me to define the strategy for ECOAGRICULTURE PARTNERS’ market program (www.ecoagriculturepartners.org). I am interested in your opinion as to what matters when developing functioning market mechanisms for sustainable business with products (such as coffee, milk or vanilla) and environmental services (such as hydrological provisions or pollination services) from ecoagriculture systems. Currently I think that the following is important for us

  1. Information and knowledge management in value chains for differentiated products from ecoagriculture systems
    • … think about measuring impacts that buying practices have on income of growers …
    • … think about approaches to traceability for high value niche products…
  2. Linking of (agro) biodiversity systematically to markets for differentiated products from ecoagriculture systems
    • … think about denominations of origin for coffee or cocoa…
    • … think about high quality vanilla that is certified organic…
  3. Market mechanisms for environmental services derived from biodiversity pools, water provision or carbon sequestration
    •  … think about defining the real value of water or bees for coffee production…
    • … and then, think about visualizing value chains for hydrological services….
    • … think about better livestock management that increases water quality…
    • … and then, think about the markets that would compensate herders for changed range practices…

If you have an opinion what really matters for the development of markets for ecoagriculture, please let us know.
